Tatoo Removal by Laser

Tatoo Removal by Laser

Laser tattoo removal is simple, safe, and produces fantastic results. The advanced technology works by allowing the light produced by the laser to pass through the skin and break up the tattoo ink into tiny particles. The body then disposes of these fragments via its immune system. It usually takes several treatment sessions to ensure success, with regular intervals between sessions.

The procedure can cause a stinging sensation, which can be eased by applying a local anaesthetic cream. Some people also experience a lightening or darkening of the affected skin, though in most cases this returns to normal after six months. Redness in the area is common after the procedure, but subsides quickly. The professionals performing the treatment will advise using a high-factor sun block while the skin is still sensitive, along with other tips on achieving the best results. It makes sense to take your tattoo to the experts!

How it works?

Tattoos are removed with Q-Switched NdYag laser. A focused beam of light passes harmlessly through the outer layers of skin and is absorbed by the tattoo ink. As the light is absorbed, it is quickly converted to heat. The sudden rise of temperature breaks the ink into tiny particles. These tiny particles are cleared away by the immune system.

Which tattoo colors can be treated?

Response depends on the tattoo’s color, depth, and the chemical composition of the ink. Black, dark blue, red tattoos respond well to laser treatment. Purple, yellow and orange tattoos respond poorly and require more sessions.

Does it hurt?

The laser selectively targets the undesired ink and does not affect the surrounding skin. Most patients tolerate treatment well and have little discomfort. Patients compare the sensation of laser shots to the snap of a rubber band. If treatment is uncomfortable, topical anesthesia may be used.

What can I expect after treatment?

Immediately after laser treatment, the treated area becomes white in color and may swell slightly. There might be some redness & slight burning sensation. The whiteness subsides in about 30 minutes. The redness and swelling is minimized by cooling with an ice pack. The tattoo will fade over the next few weeks.

What are the precautions with laser treatment?

Strict sun protection is recommended before, during and after laser treatment.

How many sessions are required?

Some tattoos may clear in just one session and others may take multiple sessions spaced 4-8 weeks apart.
